Mission: Taking Chances
Location: Somwhere in the black
Timeline: 2265

Join Starfleet they said, see the galaxy they said. Get dropped off on a stinky marsh world where you have to chew the water. Selune smiled smugly to herself as she watched the away team march through the sludge, rapidly becoming tiny specs before disappearing completely as she piloted the shuttle higher into the atmosphere.

Letting the ship fall into a lazy roll she watched in mute fascination as the milky green planet filled the view screen. Countless flight hours and dozens of planets had not managed to jade the beauty of space in her eyes and she still took what opportunities she could to simply bask in it.

As the roll finally completed and the planet slipped from view Selune's hands fell back into the routine of shifting her trajectory to something less likely to end in a crater. She had several hours before she had to rendezvous with the surface team and no desire to spend them planet side, even after weeks aboard the cramped survey ship. No, she was quite happy with her moment of brief solitude amongst the stars.

It wasn't long before her mind began to drift to the same thing that had been occupying her every idle moment since the message arrived, her next assignment on a constitution class starship. It was beyond a dream come true and after bumbling around on the Agamemnon for a year it seemed like an impossible gift from above. She was still secretly waiting for a message to arrive informing her of a clerical error and redirecting her to freighter duty for the next five years.

She had barely even begun to start ticking off the shrines she was going to have to pay her respects to when the communicators chirp shattered the crisp silence of her reverie followed by the garbled pleading from her companions to be rescued from the overwhelming stench of the bogs below. But even the impending stink of the away team couldn't stifle the grin that kept bubbling its up, a constitution, her, of all possible people. She even managed a sweet smile for the away team as they covered her shuttle in muck, at least for a few seconds before she scathingly informed them that they would be the ones cleaning it up.
