Shopping:: From Fedepedia, the Federation encyclopedia
A retailer or shop is a business that presents a selection of goods or services and offers to sell them to customers for money or other goods. Shopping is an activity in which a customer browses the available goods or services presented by one or more retailers with the intent to purchase a suitable selection of them. In some contexts it may be considered a leisure activity as well as an economic one. The shopping experience can range from "delightful" to "terrible," based on a variety of factors including how the customer is treated, convenience, and mood.
The shopping expedition began in the Empress, as the women did not manage to make it out of the hotel. They got off the lift and were strolling through the lobby when Fiona spotted 'Venus Vestments', a shop within the hotel that carried some of the most current and fashionable garments in the galaxy, alongside ancient styles rendered in modern fabrics. She dragged the crew into the shop just to try on an emerald medieval-style outfit that fit her like a glove, while Char fell in love with a long evening gown that was encrusted with mirrored holo projectors which shimmered and created faint illusions as the wearer moved.
They convinced Yuna to try on a Orion dancing girl outfit, complete with strapless bikini with many dangling strands to entice and attract the opposite sex in all the right places.
"Holy mud pools, it fits!" Yuna strutted out of the changing room, doing an experimental twirl that made the outfit move to its best potential. It hugged her trim and toned figure in all the right places, accentuating her curves and showing just how far down those spots actually went.
The engineer actually managed a fairly credible wolf whistle. "That's sheddin' the ol stuffy fleet image!"
"Stuffy fleet my arse," Yuna snorted, adding a little skip to her step, which made the outfit just that much more eye-catching.
A slow clap started with Char, which was picked up by a few other patrons in the shop. "I will well and truly be damned. I think the stick has officially been removed..." she muttered.
Fiona found a fringed shawl of a material that she swore was Andorian arctic spider silk and just had to buy it. The color offset her hair magnificently, and she thought she had something to go with it for the evening. " Hmmph... if not... I kin find something!" she swore.
Selune spent almost as much time pouting at the number of things she wanted and wouldn't be able to stand wearing as she did rummaging through a collection of long light dresses before she found an intricately patterned kimono and refused to be separated from it.
At one point Charybdis found a ridiculously large-brimmed hat with a matching short trenchcoat that she seemed quite taken with, save that the hat pinched her ears or flattened them out to the sides quite uncomfortably. She tried to get Selune to try it on, but the hat literally would have had to have holes cut in the brim to fit the Caitan's unique physiology.
This in turn led to a combined attack on the hat rack, with each of the women trying on various hats and different personalities with them. They all agreed that somehow the black beret looked adorable on Selune, with her ears tucked inside it, though she disliked it due to the discomfort she still let them add it to her outfit, opting to flatten her ears under it instead while complaining about peer pressure. Char tried to convince her comrades that a straw cowboy hat looked good on her, but they all agreed otherwise.
Fiona found a plaid tam-o'-shanter with a pom atop it that she swore was her clan's tartan, and though none of them understood quite what that meant, she seemed inordinately pleased and flung it expertly at the sales clerk to be paid for when they were done. She added the large-brimmed hat that Char had failed to pull off and a pair of dark sunglasses to her little stack. Yuna found a somewhat military style cap that was a bit of a severe look, but the assemblage agreed that when she put it on and pursed her lips, it most definitely worked for her. Char was upset that while she had the desire, there was a reason why hats had never really caught on as a component of Vulcan fashion.
Their purchases paid for, they were sent to their suite by the hotel, saving them the trouble of lugging their packages around, and they began to see the wisdom of Fiona's expert shopping plan. Though there was still the thought of escaping the hotel, that reduced somewhat when the redheaded engineer spotted a 'Sharper Holo' store filled with gizmos and gadgets that were simply too much fun to pass up, and they realized they weren't escaping any time soon.
However, it was a short-lived realization when Fi spent five minutes perusing, sneered at practically every gadget and then stormed off with a string of epithets which none of them fully understood, yet it was generally agreed that it indicated a lack of contentedness with the selection and quality.
She finally summed it up with 3 simple words-"It was Crrrap!"
'Dionysius' Delight' was a specialty store that catered to the more adult 'toy' market, and Charybdis made a beeline for it as soon as she spotted it. Selune spent most of her time hidden inside her hood and stammering embarrassed apologies each time she managed to stumble wide-eyed into one of her companions until she finally retreated to safety outside. Char seemed rather enthusiastic even for her, piling a number of packages, objects, tubes and boxes on the counter, and was apparently quite in her element, even as Fiona pointed and laughed at a few of her selections.
The engineer finally fled outside to join the Caitian while the other two made their purchases, her face matching her hair "Laird boot I think I'm too tame fer this planet" she proclaimed then said "Oooh cold drinks!" and promptly scored some for them after dragging Selune away from the refrigeration unit.
Eventually the Vulcan vixen had plundered the 'marital aid' shop for all that it was worth to her, and she departed it looking rather pleased with herself. "So do we try the jewelry store over there or do we go wander the city and sightsee and shop elsewhere?" she asked.
Before Charybdis had finished speaking Selune had already begun padding towards 'Galactic Gems' display window, a small grin on her face as she scuttled from item to item. A few seconds later she disappeared inside and begun to try on a number of silver bracelets sighing softly as they faded out against her fur. Finally settling on a fragile web-like silver chain laced with small black stones that wound its way up her wrist with a delighted grin, turning to the others and showing it off, "What do you think?"
"I think it's beautiful, Sel... you should get it for yourself, so you have a nice memento of this trip," Charybdis offered. She herself was looking at a selection of bands, and was currently inspecting a shiny grey band that seemed too large for her finger.
Fiona gave her a slight poke and hummed an old earth tune that the officer with nigh-total recall and a thirst for human culture would instantly recognize. "Careful there..." she teased. "It clashes wi' gold..."
The Caitian kept her from too much ribbing of the amazonian science officer. The engineer seemed to have no sense of self preservation when it came to the curious callipygian commander.
"I'm just looking..." the pointy-eared shopper exclaimed, though the shade of mint that she turned from her neck to the tips of her ears said otherwise.
"Mmmmm hmmmmm...." Fiona replied, already turning away to admire Selune's find.
"Verra nice Selune! I love good silver!" Fiona nodded then pointed out a matching belly-chain that was displayed on a model. "Oooh lookit!" She generously extended the use of her various 'bits and bobs' as she called them to the other two women."I packed everythin' boot tha' dilitheum chamber."
"Well, I'm sure you'd pack one of those if it would fit," Yuna snorted, not really that 'into' jewelry but enjoying watching the others go nuts.
"Ya, I really do need a bigger case!" Fiona laughed.
"I'm sure you'd find a way" Yuna retorted, watching the girls muck around with the silver and gold.
"I heard one of the engineers complaining that you've even got stuff stored in one of the supply rooms," Selune chipped in as she followed her theme and homed in on a black choker.
"It was empty an' who kens when those things might be useful," Fiona said tartly.
"What's the point of being the senior staff if there aren't a few extra perks? Besides, one never knows when the chief engineer might need something from her personal collection that could save the ship, right?" Char chimed in from halfway across the shop.
"Reet, well thet and it's bits and bobs salvaged fruim here an' there..."
"Not like we're keeping any illegal projects running aboard the ship or anything. Just experiments and technological advances and... stuff," the bewitching babe added with a grin. She made a purchase or two, again having it sent up to their suite. "I dunno about you girls, but I could eat a Bandorain thandersnatch. Lunch?"
Pulling herself away from a large violet crystal before it started staring back, Selune chimed in. "Sounds good to me, I'm starving."
"Anyone got a preference for cuisine? As long as it involves meat protein I'm up for it... seafood, steak, poultry..."
"Why don't we try traditional Risan to start off with? You know, when in Rome..." Celes suggested, spotting a strip of restaurants up ahead.
Charybdis laughed cheerfully and shrugged. "When in Rome indeed! Risan cuisine it is!"
"Lead tha way? Do we follow our noses or do we get Adonis to drive us someplace fabulous?" Fi asked.
"Mmmmm, good thought... well..." the sultry scientist held her chin with her thumb and forefinger for a moment in contemplation, then snapped her fingers as she came to a decision. "Lunch we can take inside the hotel... dinner we go someplace amazing!"
"And there you have it ladies, command decisions. That's why I make the big bucks," the first officer joked as she scooted out ahead of her friends before they could swat her, and she began following her nose, looking for something delicious... and somehow she was quite certain they would find it.
