As the captain made the teams and the Orion and the Deltan realized they were together, a strategically inadequate pairing directly in opposition to the textbook away-team tactical coverage chapter in the Commander School training course at the Academy, both of them suddenly took on the same sort of expression most people referred to as "dunked cat".

Andurean turned to the Doctor and said softly in Kolari as the Captain went on speaking, "He's an idiot isn't he?"

The Doctor, facing him, nodded once and then both turned back to look at their CO and in unison, sighed softly and slumped a little.

Later on the station

Siivas tapped Andurean's forearm, away from the serpent, gently to get his attention and motioned for him to squat. They were in an industrial section of the station where there were few workers and most of the processing machinery was automated. Andurean nodded silently and joined the Doctor closer to the decking in a shadowed area. Siivas exhaled softly and allowed his eyelids to fall almost shut as he opened his mind and scanned the surrounding area.

In his internal vision, his mind roamed around in a spiral, ever widening. It encountered the minds of other sentients and flowed over them, not touching yet absorbing their emanations, their constant stream of output. In thirty seconds he opened his eyes to find Andurean's face very close to his, a finger over his own green lips in a bid for silence. Siivas blinked once, deliberately, having sensed the mind of the Nausicaan guard that stood on the grating above them, unable to see them in the pool of pitch darkness below him.

Warm oily liquid began to stream down, spattering them both, the smell like dead fish left in the sun too long and rotting as the Nausicaan relieved himself into the darkness surreptitiously. They both moved in opposite directions, boots shed they were barefoot, climbing up the conduits to either side of the guard like shadows. He wasn't quite finished as the viper-sized thorn-encrusted windserpent leapt from the darkness and fastened it's fangs on his windpipe, injecting venom and crushing the armored cartilage there. The guard jerked and tried to cry out, his hands trying to claw at the snake as it whipped it's body around the neck and began to saw it's body-thorns through the tissues of the creature, unable even to gurgle as his throat clamped shut and his neck swelling up with the neurotoxic venom. Paroxysms of pleasure whipped through the Nausicaan's body as Siivas caught his weapon and Andurean caught his body and they made him disappear silently into the shadows with them.

Siivas glanced down at the corpse and noted, with clinical detachment, the tumescence of the Nausicaan's anatomy and wondered if it were due to the neurotoxic effects or their side effects on Nausicaan physiology. Considering the distance between the two incidents and the point of injection, he assumed it was likely the latter.

Andurean punched him in the pec, lightly, to get his attention, making a certain face. Siivas glared playfully and silently indicated that the Orion had missed his nipple by an inch or so. Andurean darkened with a flush and Siivas smiled slightly as he scored a point. The windserpent gave them both a look that clearly indicated it didn't understand mammals.

At.

All.

And then gathering itself, it leaped up to Andurean's shoulder and resumed it's perch around his neck.

Siivas paused and squinted at Andurean for a second and then used a specific sign language. :I know what you are: he signed.

:And I you: Andurean signed back, his expression saying silently 'as any child could have'.

:Can we work together?: Siivas asked, eying the serpent.

:We have been: Andurean replied cryptically.

Siivas glared at him pointedly for being evasive.

:We've both been urinated on by a Nausicaan: Andurean signed fluidly :I have as little wish for that to become public knowledge as you:

:Agreed: Siivas signed and smiled. Silently he made several signs, indicating locations and numbers using the same handsign language.

Andurean paused and considered, glancing at Siivas and the currently absent chain of latinum he normally wore. Siivas knew what that look meant and nodded, once. Andurean took a hand weapon from the Nausicaan, a Kolari-style disruptor and a monoblade. He offered the phasers to Siivas. Siivas took the phasers apart quickly, made tiny adjustments with tools from his surgical kit and reassembled them. Andurean, watching him, grinned as he realized what the Deltan had done.

Siivas, in spite of himself, smiled back.

Andurean signed a quick plan, Siivas made two suggestions and they mulled them over and then agreed. They went in separate directions across the mechanized industrial sector, each towards different grounds.
