Past Tense
The vented antimatter collided with the atmosphere outside of the shuttle explosively even as the warp drive attempted to engage, forming the space-warping bubble even as the explosive device with the exotic particle explosion took hold in the plasma manifold.
In a traditional jump to faster-than-light travel, space would warp as the bubble pushed the vessel forward, while the inertial dampeners kept the inhabitants safe from the stresses of such forces.
In a traditional voyage.
As rainbows stretched the light into its prismatic components, the universe yawned and screamed all at the same time, and the three inhabitants of the Shuttlecraft Jupiter screamed like banshees at the top of their lungs for all of six point three five seven seconds as they experienced agony unlike anything they had ever experienced before. It was a sensation of being crushed while being turned inside out, of freezing while burning alive, while suddenly being a part of every particle in the universe, while simultaneously experiencing oblivion.
Not their best vacation, to be certain.
Future Tense
Siivas and his teams beamed down into the arcology even as it was being evacuated, FNN was trying to get past the cordon to make contact with the people that were doing whatever it was here and found some very professional looking men in identical and nondescript security uniforms holding the line, all armed with stun rifles and a strong lack of empathy of any sort.
Apparatus were beamed down in designated areas, fusion piles were placed strategically and teams carefully created lines in brightly colored paint and used holographic models to run simulations of the various scenarios they could think of. All the time Donal Ren stood or sat and moaned or groaned and Siivas eyed the gold chip and wordlessly reminded him that he accepted it and now he was liable.
At an hour before "The Event" was calculated to begin, the Eleganza made planetfall and hovered over the arcology above the level the shuttle was due to arrive at. They would have limited time, a very short time, to grab the shuttle and help lower it to the ground. Inertial Dampener Projectors, field projectors that created a large field of kinetic dampening force were aimed to be able to slow the shuttle, increase the survivability of the soft things inside the shuttle and the shuttle itself if it suddenly came to a halt from impact or from being grabbed.
At regular intervals, a siren sounded, alerting people that an increment had been achieved and a voice whispered from all of their comms a constant murmur of tactical data to keep people clear as the work and preparations, long since lain and tested, were tested and retested to make sure they were ready and prepared for the moment they would be needed.
As time counted down, then entered the final minute and tensions were extremely high because despite all the known variables, there were so many they had only guessed at. The clock ticked down, the numbers ran to zero and then to negatives and still everyone waited
Present Tense
As suddenly as it had begun it was over, as alarms and buzzers and everything short of a red alert klaxon went off before the systems all began shutting down and the shuttle began dropping out of the sky.
Fiona fought to open her eyes. She winced against the alarms then her eyes widened and she kicked the pilot's chair " Oi!! SELUNE!" the gravity of the situation was underscored by her use of the Caitian's proper name.
Selune barely even felt the kick, her ears had receded to a loud ringing that drowned out any possibility of hearing the engineer, or the numerous warnings and klaxons that were desperately trying to get her attention. She could already tell how this was going to end, it was simply a question of how badly and she didn't need to see the readouts to tell her that.
This was one of those moments where a great commander would have an amazing plan, some brilliant idea that would save the day... and Char at the moment couldn't tell you the value of pi. She would have at least tried to wrap herself around her friends to cushion the impact, but her muscles were not taking requests today, and the world was surprisingly dark for some reason as green blood gushed out of her nose and leaked from her ears while her eyes rolled back up into her head.
"PULL UP... PULL UP!" Fi chanted with each kick then she closed her eyes tightly. There was a small burst of thankfulness that she'd installed the harnesses on the seats then all of her attention was diverted by bracing for impact. Her eyes sprang back open of their own accord and she gasped " Holy hell... People!" for a moment she wondered where they were then merciful darkness claimed her.
Selune managed to maintain consciousness long enough to realize that the shuttle wasn't falling fast enough, all the systems had died but they hadn't flown straight into the snow covered cliffs, there also seemed to be a lot more activity that there should of been... and it was day. Her last thoughts were lost in confusion as the world spun and fell to black.
Present Tense
It was a huge relief when at minus three-minutes forty-one seconds with a burst of rather spectacular pyrotechnics and a sound like it had just dropped out of mach, that the F-class shuttle appeared and began to arc towards the ground, well within the cone of projected velocity and direction that had been calculated based on the movement of the planet and the position in the system.
Eleganza didn't immediately use it's tractor beams, as planned, the IDP's burst into life and bathed a huge zone with dim grayness that the shuttle plunged into and visibly began to bleed velocity. Then, just as they were about to plow into the ground, a yellow tractor beam lashed out from the cruiser and caught the shuttle and everything around it in gentle arms, jerking it up once and then letting it fall under it's own weight the final three meters to the ground below!
"Antimatter protocols!" the coms crackled as forcefield sprang up from portable emitters and magnetic fields crackled into life inside them, tiny flecks of sizzling almost-matter channeled away from the shuttle.
"Transporters?" Siivas called into his wrist communicator to the cruiser above.
"We just got their command transponders," Helios' voice replied in his aural implant. "Using mineral lock to beam them up." Siivas made a face, hoping the transport didn't leave them inside-out.
"Bring up the medical team," Siivas ordered and turned to find his team assembled; Proot and Priit and Nuus rolled up and assumed flanking positions. A moment later the Deltan ship's transport grabbed them and pulled them inside, putting them right in the infirmary.
Siivas moved to the zero-gravity fields his ladies floated in, small burns here and there, a disruptor wound or two and bruised all over so badly them looked ready to burst from the soft tissue damage alone. Fortunately, it looked and felt worse than it was. ~Shareen and S'tal to Selune since you're the better feline-xeno, Sulamid to Fiona since she knows you, Xian with me~ Siivas ordered telepathically, loud and clear to his people as they spread out. Deltan medical technicians moved to assist but they took the support roles.
Eyes rolling back into place, Charybdis fought to pull herself upright, then recognized a familiar face. "Siivas... how...?"
Siivas leaned over to her and reached up to flick her with his right index finger, hard, right between the eyes. "THAT for trying to get yourself killed and not arranging for me to be there first," Siivas told her mock severely, but smiled and glanced to the tech, who introduced a sedative to the Vulcanoid's system.
"You came..." she managed as her eyes crossed then returned to inspecting the inside of her skull, and her head lolled lazily.
Starfleet would be there within the hour to inspect, question and collect their officers, who would be stabilized and safe, and accompanied by their personal physician, who happened to be a Starfleet reservist who just happened to be willing to reactivate his commission to come along for the ride, along with his lover, who happened to insist.
It was, all in all, a happening scene.
