Hour after hour of enthusiastic exertion eventually took its toll on them both, and finally exhaustion settled in and slumber overtook their weary forms. Once again, Patrick sprawled on his back, and the voluptuous Vulcan curled herself about him like a lizard sunning itself upon a rock- a somewhat apt analogy, in truth.
There were a number of factors at work- the coolness of his skin was a sensation that she craved, she still delighted in his touch with the feel of his arms encircling her, and the subconscious reassurance that he was right there gave her security beyond anything she had ever known. Plus with one ear to his chest the sound of his heartbeat was far too loud for her sensitive pointed ears to ignore, and it was as a metronome, lulling her into a deep and peaceful slumber.
Feeling far safer and possessed of more inner peace than she had known since she'd been a child, somewhere within Charybdis' mind a collection of synapses whose paths had been inadvertently carved years ago, which had lain unused and dormant for years suddenly began sparking, crackling and humming to life.
As her happy and content conscious mind held fast to the human beside and beneath her, trying to press herself as closely as possible and make as much contact with his form as she could, she clung to him quite possessively. And as the hold on her conscious mind faded, so too did her last few remaining inhibitions. Her subconscious mind, unfettered by rationalization and reason chose to trust him in its own way on a level that her conscious mind still did not yet grasp. Slowly, her subconscious mind reached out gingerly to his own sleeping mind, treading lightly yet steadily as she followed a path she had never imagined..
Slowly at first, then with more confidence as her subconscious mind realized it was not harming him (as it was scientifically designed to do quite the opposite), it sought a connection. As it felt that connection take root, it became stronger and stronger, her untrained consciousness moving solely on instinct as it sought to achieve a melding of their minds as they slept.
Their breathing synched, and her heartbeat slowed to a relative crawl as his sped like a jackhammer. It was her first such experience in a life that was never meant to do such a thing, and as such it lacked both finesse and control. But the fact that it was occurring at all was a testament to the bond that they had already formed... and thus did she share her dreams with him to begin telling the tale that she could not yet bring herself to relate to him in waking.
They slept, and they dreamed, and she unwittingly began to share with her love her tale 'neath the Raptor's wing...
